Exciting news on the bird front, a few weeks ago I saw an eagle only 15 miles away from us here at Galabank! More unusual, we often see Buzzards around here and frequently they get mobbed by crows, last week I had the unusual sight of a Kestrel mobbing a crow.
New railway :- Our new railway has now opened to great excitement. It opened on 6th Sept. 2015 for paying customers, going from Tweedbank (between Melrose and Galashiels) right in to the centre of Edinburgh. Even the Queen was present to open the railway officially by steam train. After a month of use the usage of the train is very high, apparently way past the expected figures. Trains stop in the village of Stow and give very easy and smooth access to the centre of Edinburgh along a very scenic route. Big thumbs up from everyone.
Other news – at the opening day of celebrations it was announced that a small group of people are intending to set up a micro-brewery in the village. The venture is still in the planning stage, but we cannot wait for this to happen!
